Faith, Hope, and Charity

Posted by on 7/6/2016
I Corinthians 13:13 "And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three, but the greatest of these is charity."

"Faith" - It's the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Without it, it is impossible to please God. By faith, men of God throughout the Bible took on every task God brought to them and saw them through. In the middle of their failure, they never lost faith. It was the fuel to the fire that burned in their hearts. Faith is important. Faith is believing in a better day while seeing only signs of a crumbling world. Faith is putting action to the things we believe in. Faith - it is a necessity.

"Hope" - It is the small glimmer of light in midst of total darkness. It is to expect with confidence. It is what stops us just at the point of giving up and refreshes our intent. Hope is what pushes us past the average and makes us work towards more. Hope is important. The Bible calls hope our joy. Above all, we as Christians must have hope. For if we don't have  hope, how can we share the hope of salvation and redemption with a lost, and hopeless, world.    Hope - It is a necessity.

"Charity" - I find it interesting that this scripture speaks of faith and hope (extremely important as we have discussed), then tells us that the greatest of these is charity. In fact, the whole chapter is centered around charity. You know what that tells me? Charity is important. So important that it was put above faith and hope. So what is it? Charity: a benevolent goodwill toward or love of humanity. This is something that the society we live in has difficulty with. Everywhere we look there are struggles between people, groups of people, government, families. We have lost touch with charity, which once was just considered a way of life. Whether we agree with people or not, we have to love them. I could talk about charity all day, but I think 1 Corinthians 13 sums it up just fine.

1. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5. Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6. Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7. Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
9. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
11. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
12. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
13. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Quite a large list of things, but it is so very needed in our day. Make it your goal to become the epitome of Godly charity to everyone you come in contact with. Let this challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and give of yourself. God gave of Himself, so can we.

We love you all! Hope everyone is having a fabulous summer.
